Jim Keane: Honorary Goo Goo Doll?

keane.jpg

I wonder if Jim Keane called Robby Takac or John Rzeznik and asked permission to steal the melody from their song “Better Days” for his latest commercial. I also think it’s pretty humorous to tap into the emotional currency that the Sabres generated with that video during last seasons playoff run. People finding your campaign to be soulless and floundering? Lets subconciously remind everyone how hopeful we were during the Sabres Stanley Cup run last year!

Dude…this was on my blog list this evening too…I just picked up on it while having the banality of a local TV news broadcast wash over me…too much…

Our brains have evidently melded into one…I think this means we are destined to reunite on election night

Keane’s version sounds like someone on a Casio in their basement.

And if Keane was running some nasty ad about Collins, you’d be bashing that too. This guy can’t do anything right in your eyes can he?

Nasty ads are the way of it this time of year. He’s already run some nasty ads about Collins and Collins has run some about Keane. Big deal. I just found this particular ad to be disingenuous in a new and interesting way. :-)

Disingenuous? Perhaps there might have been better songs. If he wishes to use the Gorski administration, how about “The Good Old Days” by Carly Simon?
    What would you have picked?

Geek, I noticed it as well. It’s a nice, subtle way to try to get people feeling positive about his campaign. I kept waiting for a shot of kids playing street hockey to round it out.

Geek, actually you raise a very good point. I looked at the Kenae ad again and the visuals and tempo of the piece to the Sabres montage is uncanny (and I believe deliberate).

It may backfire. Whenever I hear Better Days I get a pain in my gut, a song synonymous with the brutal heartbreak of last spring’s playoffs.

Same song at the start, train bells, Gold dome bank building, cheering people, Vidler’s, its all the same.

    Good eye

So the goo goo dolls endorse Keane?

I heard that too… very crafty and very sneaky. All it did for me was bring back that painful memory of the Sabres/Goos loss last year.
